Chesapeak Hospital Jan. 12th 1863
Dear Father and Mother
It is with much pleasure
that I set down to write
a few lines to let you know
that we start this after
noon at 1 oclock the news
come about 2 hours ago and
I have been packing knap
sack and seeing as I had
a few moments to spare
I thought I would write
you a few lines. I am well
as usual and hope this
will find you the same
I have been looking for a
letter from you 2 or 3 days
but have not got one
yet but I expect to get
one to day noon. if I do
I will answer it as soon
as I land which will be
in New York I expect
that is the calculation now
there is a lot of Bankses
men there and we are going
to go with them. if we go
to New York and stay long
I shall send for a box
for I have been feasting
on the other boys that
have had boxes and I would
like to have some thing
for them. we had a snow
storm hear the other night
but it is verry warm and
------ weather -----
I have got some bad news
to tell you I heard the
other day that Capt Tucker
was dead he died with the
hart disease. it dont
seem to me as if it
was so. but I suppose it
is so. I dont know as you
can read this for I could
not get a good place to
write with ink and then
was in such a hurry to
------ any thing
from Dan yet or has Abbey
I have not heard a word
from him. well I have not
got time to write any
more now so I must
close write as soon as you
get this direct the same
as the last. this from
ever loveing son
Galutia York to Zebulon
and Lucy York.
if it should happen to go
rite to Neworleans
you must not worry
about me for probably
you wont get a letter
from me in 5 or 6 weeks
but if it should happen to
be so I can I will
write this is a curious
place for you dont know
from one minute to another
where you are a going or what
a fellow is a going to do.
but if you dont get a
letter from me in 6 weeks
you may know I have gone
to Texas. so good by for
this time I remain as
ever your affectionate son
Galutia
the doctor just come along and
said we should go rite strate
to Neworleans so ___
it be

Galutia York Home page.
