my pen in hand to let
you know how I get along
which is first rate we start
ed from norwage last satur/day
and reached Baltimore last
night forty miles from
Washington the rebels took
Yorktown about 12 hours
after we came through it
and they have sent 10
regiments from here to
retake it if they can
for they have tore up
some of the railroad
track the rebel pickets
are within 6 miles of
here there was 7,000 troops
come in here last nite
after we got here there
is a regiment just starting
from/here and Captain Tucker
says he should not wonder
if we should smell powder
in less than a weak

news I did not have time
to get my likeness
taken but as soon as
you can I want you and
ma to have yours
taken an send it to me
