A Moment in Time...
The Headquarters flag of the 3d Brigade, 2d Division of General Henry Warner
Slocum's XII Army Corps flew at the Battle of Gettysburg. Brigadier General George
Sears Greene, commander of the 3d Brigade, rallied the troops of his New York regiments,
the 60th, 78th, 102d, 137th and 149th Volunteers, with this flag flying above him.
On July 2, 1863, his lone brigade repulsed the Confederate attack on the Union
position at Culp's Hill, saving the Union Right, and perhaps saving the Union Army.
The Onondaga County Civil War Round Table is proud to have raised the funds
necessary to preserve this historic flag. It was returned to the Onondaga County
Court House and is a tribute to the brave New Yorkers who fought and died at Culp's Hill
and at other bloody battlefields of the American Civil War.
The OCCWRT thanks all who helped with this project.
