OBITUARY.---The body of Major ARTHUR
BROOKS, of Hamilton, was brought to this
city last night, and was taken to Hamilton
this morning for burial.
He was the son of Rev. W. R. BROOKS,
pastor of the Baptist Church in Hamilton.
Major BROOKS graduated from Madison
University last August, with signal honor,
and with the purpose of studying law.--
But, prompted by a strong feeling of patri-
otism, and having acquired a knowledge of
military science, he raised a company and
was elected Captain. His company joined
the 36th N.Y. Regiment.
Though only 18 years old, by his superi-
or courage, and unblemished moral bearing,
he rose rapidly to a position of respect, and
commanding influence in the Regiment.---
As evidence of this, though among the
youngest, he was promoted to the office of
Major. It is however supposed that the
appointment did not reach him before his
death. He died at Yorktown, of typhoid
fever. He was both a Patriot and a Chris-
tian.
