Suicide in Merrillsville.
William Parkhurst Christman was
found dead in bed in his house near
Merrillsville, Monday morning, by his
daughter, Mrs. Eddy, who lives near
the old home. An almost empty half-
ounce bottle that had contained laud-
num was found within his reach, and
the body was still warm, indicating that
death had taken place not many hours
before. He was last seen alive Satur-
day evening, and Mrs. Eddy not seeing
him on Sunday, went to the house where
he lived alone and found him dead.
Coroner Brooks was called and decided
that an inquest was unnecessary, as it
was evidently a case of suicide. Mr.
Christman was about 72 years old, and
served in Capt. Stuff's company of In-
dian scouts in the rebellion. He was
a pensioner and leaves a daughter and
one son.
