Enlisted on August 12, 1862, at Albany, NY, as a private, age 20.
He mustered into the 11th NY Light Artillery.
He was discharged for promotion on June 26, 1864, and was commissioned into Company F, 4th NY Heavy Artillery.
He was discharged on December 9, 1865.
Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, June 26, 1864; to 1st Lieutenant, December 30, 1864; to Adjutant February 5, 1865.
Medal of Honor citation reads "Raised the fallen colors and, rushing forward in advance of the troops,
placed them on the enemy's works. " The location and date was at South Side Railroad, Va., April 2, 1865.
