Brevet Major-Gen. ALFRED GIBBS, Major of the Seventh United States Cavalry, died at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on Saturday, aged 46 years. Gen. GIBBS was born in the State, graduated at West Point in 1846, and was at once appointed a Sec- ond Lieutenant of Mounted Rifles. He was subse- quently promoted Captain of the Second Cavalry. During the war he was commissioned as Colonel of one of the New-York Cavalry Regiments, and was soon after made a Brigadier-General. For gallant services in the Army of the Potomac he was bre- vetted Major-General of Volunteers, and subsequent- ly Major-General of the Army. At the close of the war he was appointed Major of the Seventh Cavalry, and served with his regiment up to the time of his death.
