John Hughes

           JOHN HUGHES.
  John Hughes died Sunday at the home
of his daughter on Sunset avenue, aged 70.
Mr. Hughes was born in Ireland and came
to this country when a young man.  He
had lived in Rochester, Syracuse and
Oswego, and came to Utica about nine
years ago.
Mr. Hughes was a veteran and a mem-
ber of Post Bacon, G.A.R.  He served
in the war three years with the Sixteenth
Regulars, and participated in many of the
most important engagements.
  The deceased leaves two daughters, Mrs.
Patrick Hughes, of this city, and Mrs.
Thomas Gately, of Syracuse.  His funeral
was largely attended from St. Patrick's
Church Tuesday morning.  Burial was 
made in Oswego.
