                  OBITUARY.
              RICHARD FRANCHOT.
 Hon. Richard Franchot, formerly a member
of Congress from the Otsego District, died at
Schenectady yesterday afternoon. He was a native
of Morris, Otsego County, and was born in 1816.
He was educated in the common schools, and be-
came a Civil Engineer. Later he became a farmer,
and turning his attention to railroad affairs was
elected President of the ALbany and Susquehanna
Railroad Company. He was elected to the Thirty-
seventh Congress, and served on the Committees on
the District of Columbia and on the Pacific Rail-
road.
