Col. Joel J. Seaver.
Col. Joel J. Seaver died at his home, in
Malone, N.Y., Wednesday night, aged sev-
enty-seven years. For twenty-five years
he was the chief editorial writer on The
Malone Palladium and one of the pro-
prietors for a much longer period. He was
the first man in Franklin County to volun-
teer under President Lincoln's first call for
troops, was chosen Captain of Company I,
organized in Malone, and at the end of two
years was Colonel of his regiment and in
command of a brigade. He was a member
of the Constitutional Convention in 1867
and Postmaster of Malone during Presi-
dent Hayes's administration. The Rev. F.
B. Hall of Plattsburg, Chaplain of the old
Sixteenth Regiment and a tentmate of Col.
Seaver, will officiate at the funeral on
Saturday.
