Jonathan Tarbell

 Jonathan Tarbell, ex-Deputy First
Comptroller of the Treasury, died in
Washington on Wednesday of last
week. He was a native of New York,
rose to the rank of Brigadier in the
Union army during the war, and was
a judge of the Supreme Court of Mis-
sissippi during the reconstruction
period.
