Gen. Nelson Taylor.
Gen. Nelson Taylor died in South Nor-
walk, Conn., yesterday afternoon. He was
seventy-three years old. Death was caused
by pneumonia.
Gen. Taylor was born in Norwalk. While
a young man he came to this city, where
he enlisted in the United States Army. He
was a Captain in the First New-York In-
fantry, commanded by Col. Stevenson,
which was sent to California in 1846, just
before the outbreak of the Mexican war.
After California was annexed he remained
there in business, and was elected State
Senator. He returned to this city just be-
fore the civil war.
When war was declared he was commis-
sioned Colonel of the Seventy-second New-
York Infantry, and on Sept. 7, 1862, was
commissioned Brigadier General of volun-
teers. He resigned Jan. 19, 1863. In 1864 he
was a member of Congress from New-York.
For the past twelve years he has been a
resident of Norwalk and was largely identi-
fied with its interests.
