George W. Von Schack

  General Von Schack, U. S. A., Dead
 NEW YORK, Jan. 17.-- General George
Von Schack, United States Army, retired,
died suddenly at his home here today. He
was 82 years old. General Von Schack
was born in Berlin and was a captain in
the German army. He emigrated to the
United States in 1861 and entered the Un-
ion army, serving with the Seventh Regi-
ment, New York Volunteers, and retired
at the close of the war as a brigadier gen-
eral by brevet. He has been continuously 
in the Custom House service in this port
since 1868.
